Hemp/CBD Gua Sha at IECSC Las Vegas

They say when you love what you do, it’s never work. I guess you could say I work really hard for never really working. I dedicated my life to the cannabis plant many years ago and ever since more doors and windows have continued to open for me. With a lot of dedication and purpose, I have focused on cannabis massage and CBD/Hemp skincare and topicals. I have witnessed what these products can do first hand since 2010 as a medical cannabis patient, and since 2014 as a professional in the healing and wellness space.

A few years ago I was feeling a bit lost. I felt like I had gained all of this knowledge and I had no where to put it. A friend suggested that I start writing and so I did. I contributed to several publications and still do so. I had created the class Cannabis Massage 101 and 102 and that led to me creating some shorter courses for dispensaries and spas. I still wanted more.

I attended my first International Esthetics Cosmetics and Spa Conference (IECSC) in 2019. Once I registered I decided to take it a step further and see if they were seeking course instructors for their upcoming shows. To my shock and awe they were, so I submitted a condensed version of Cannabis Massage 101 and I was accepted. I was over the moon. My first time teaching was in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, 2019 and I had 13 students register.

It was an amazing experience. My low attendance numbers left me wondering if I changed the title would it change the attendance. So I renamed the course CBD Massage 101 for the New York 2020 show and I had 47 attendees. Sadly, the show was cancelled. I should say heart breaking-ly, because that is how it felt..for so many of us.

Now we are onto a new year. Welcome 2021, and the return of people’s smiles. I sure did miss human interaction. So many people I know have social anxiety now after a year forced indoors. I feel like I have gone the opposite route and I want to hug everyone. I love people. I love teaching people. I love people that love to learn and that leads me to the whole reason I am writing this now about Hemp/CBD Gua Sha at IECSC Las Vegas.

As I began planning for IECSC 2021 I worked with the director of education for the show to plan out what might reach the largest audience possible. Estheticians are the biggest demographic for the show so I thought it would be best to stick with what I know and that is massage and its many forms. Gua Sha is a technique already being used by many Esthi’s so it seemed like a perfect fit. As of June 17, 2021 – I have 128 attendees scheduled to take my course.

Needless to say, I can barely contain myself. I have worked so hard to get to this point and to have that recognized and to have this many ready to learn about the strongest antioxidant there is, is the best feeling in the whole world. If you are reading this and you are a student of mine – thank you. Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to help guide you on your hemp journey.

Let’s talk about Hemp/CBD Gua Sha and why it’s so important.

Gua sha is a modality of traditional Chinese medicine that uses a tool, such a stone, that runs over the skin to break up tension due to stagnation from water retention, muscle tightness, or other congestion. This Eastern modality is trending and it makes sense as to why. Many are calling Gua Sha the surgical free facelift. Clients are always seeking new ways to reduce the signs of aging and using Gua Sha may be a fantastic way for them to perform self care at home in between their regularly scheduled facials.

The benefits of Gua Sha include:

  • Visibly smooths thin lines and wrinkles
  • Firms the look of sagging skin
  • Stimulates and detoxifies
  • Results in a brighter complexion and glow
  • Boost circulation
  • Encourage lymph drainage to banish bloating
  • Break up fascia
  • Grounding and centering
  • Natural face lift

Why we should pair cannabis/CBD/Hemp with Gua Sha:

Cannabis is the strongest antioxidant ever discovered. The US government owns patent US6630507B1, Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants. The same government that made cannabis a Schedule 1 is also very aware of its power. Antioxidants are important when it comes to the aging process. Oxidation is equivalent to aging. When we combine a product that may lessen the signs of aging with a non-invasive technique that is being called the surgical free face lift -magic happens.

Science has taught us that there are other activities that can release our own internal endocannabinoids. One of those activities is massage. Working with CBD/Hemp topicals, we have the ability to achieve cutaneous homeostasis as the CB1 and CB2 receptors interact with the phyto-cannabinoids we are using. Simultaneously, we are releasing our own endo-cannabinoids that are interacting with CB1 and CB2 receptors throughout the body, allowing us to reach internal homeostasis. Twice the activation, better the feeling and effectiveness.
